Hungary/Germany

Germany

“There is an enormous literature dealing with nationalism and territory, but the actual delimitation of national territories is sidestepped.”

I think this is romantic nationalism because it is talking about territory. It also says that it’s not precise.

“Nationalism was the most successful political force of the 19th century.”

This is liberal nationalism due to the fact that it talks about political force. They might still be free but the had to live by these laws.

Both Romantic "identity nationalism" and Liberal "civic nationalism" were essentially middle class movements.”

This is romantic and liberal because that was most of the people. They were in middle or lower social classes. This is both because it shows that they weren’t wealthy, so they couldn’t do whatever they wanted but they could also live free and believes in what they want.

Hungary

“Although the new political system
required a period of consolidation, Hungary suddenly experienced
an economic upturn and a sustained period of cultural progress.”

I think this is liberal because they have political views and they are making progress.

“This development affected the country's
economic structure much more that its social and political order
which the landowning aristocracy and gentry continued to
dominate.”

This is both liberal and romantic because they were talking about the economy and how they changes a few things, but its also romantic because it says that people were owning land.

“…the Compromise restricted
Hungary's internal administration only indirectly, to the extent that
any state's domestic policy is influenced…”

I think this is also both because it is talking about the limitations and how people cant do this but its also talking about the land and the restrictions on it.

Hungarian Nationalism

Hungarian Nationalism

Hungary went through both romantic and liberal nationalism. Hungary was emancipated and there were new laws, which show a new government. This shows liberal nationalism because it’s talking about the government and laws. The romantic side was that they had a Hungarian language. Magyar played a big role with the language story. They changed their own nation and found equality thru law, which shows more liberal nationalism. I do think that there is more liberal, but there are a few romantic so I think this is both romantic and liberal nationalism.

Italian Nationalism

Warm up

10/9/09

Italian Nationalism

Italy went through both Liberal and Romantic. “It was a constitutional monarchy with a parliament.” Page 1. They had a progressive and prudent government for their time. The chamber of deputies was the lower house and they were elected. They also controlled the money government spend. The king appointed the senate. They could not provide weapons for one thousand men in the south which shows that not everything was divided. They lost between 20,000 to 74,000 men in the period of 1861-1870. Italy had their good times, and then they didn’t put as much effort in helping the south. So there were many casualties.

In this picture you can see people dancing, drinking, and having a good time. you see that they are more advanced then the other pictures that we saw but they still haven't reach to where we are. these people are around the lower-middle class. people are celebrating by dancing and laughing with one another, just like we do today. the difference is that we have more technology then they do. their weapons are swords as in the picture, we have tanks, bombs, and much more lethal weapons. the houses look larger like some modern homes, but still don't have a solid roof. one thing i admire is that they enjoy life without all the things we have today. i personally could not imagine life without all our gadgets and devises.
